SpiderBot

I received an opportunity to intern at The IdeazFactory, a start-up exploring innovative use of technology in the advertising field, during July 2014 to August 2014. I got a chance to explore how robotics can be integrated with advertising. My project was to build a canvass painting robot based on the concept of Orcon's SpiderBot. The company was planning to install the robot at a literary festival, to attract audience to the event.

Web Interface using HTML5 and PHP

Initially to control the robot I built a web-interface using HTML5 and PHP. A webpage was chosen so that everyone has easy access to the robot, and even people who do not use social networking platforms like Facebook or Twitter can interact with the robot. I used XAMPP to setup the server. We had to reject this interface because the interface was not working properly on mobile devices.

Twitter Interface

I built the second interface using Processing and Twitter4j library to control the position of the robot and the color sprayed by it.  The user has to tweet "@thepaintingrobot" to interact with the robot.
